Turn on The 'Lights #7
Turn on The 'Lights #7
This weeks Blog will feature heavily with our Gaelic for Mothers and Others team (G4MO), who during the week launched their 5K Charity Run in aid of The Daughters of Charity Child and Family Service.
With no group gatherings or training sessions permitted under the current health restrictions, our G4MO have been keeping active with two weekly zoom sessions, including a Kettle Bell session at 8am on Saturdays.
Hold on!..... Run that by me again!!
A Zoom Session!......... At 8am!......... On Saturdays!......... With Kettle Bells!
Well done Ladies, no shortage of dedication there then!
However, to further improve their fitness, they have now decided to take on a Virtual 5K for a Local Charity.
And, they are hoping that everyone in the Club will join with them for the event, whether that is taking on the 5k distance itself, or just to support them with a donation/sponsorship to their chosen charity.
For all the info on the 5K, see the 'Couch to 5K' below.

G4MO - Couch to 5K
As already mentioned, the G4MO have taken on the challenge of running a Virtual 5K as part of their build up and training for the upcoming season. As there are no team gatherings permitted under the current health regulations, the girls were looking for other ways, other than their zoom sessions, to keep them in touch with one another and build some team spirit and fitness together as a group.
A 5K was suggested. And what better way to do one, than to do it for a local charity. At times like these, and more than ever now, charities rely on the support of local groups to help fund their activities.
The girls have chosen the Daughters of Charity Child & Family Service as their charity partner for the event.
The Daughters of Charity Child and Family Service is a 'not for profit' public service organisation providing supports in Early Childhood Development, Parenting Support, Individual and Family supports. They have a number of Family Support Centres in the local Santry area.
You can check their web page for further information on their services at the link above.
Right, now you know why they're doing a 5K.
Here's the when, where and how they're doing it!
And they'd love for everyone associated with the Club, and the people of Santry and surrounding areas, to join them and have some fun along the way.
The 5K run will take place Virtually on the Easter Bank Holiday week-end anytime from Good Friday 2nd April to Easter Monday 5th April.
The route is any route over a distance of 5K. Yep, any route, even your back garden if you wish. However, there are many routes between Santry and Dublin Airport that could be used , particularly Santry Demesne which should be looking splendid in mid spring. You don't even have to be in Santry, or Dublin, to take part. Just pick a 5K route wherever you are.
Our Club Coach Mark has developed a 5 Week training plan for the girls to use and this plan can be used by 'athletes' of all standards, from complete beginner to regular 5K runners, to help you train for the event. Mark has also provided us with some useful links for preparing for running and exercise in general.
So, Come on, let's join in with the G4MO and let's get Santry and Starlights running.
All they ask is that you donate to the Go Fund Me page (see link herewith) - we have set €10 as the entry fee for the run - but feel free to donate or sponsor whatever you can.

Even if you don't want to be as competitive as the girls for the 5K, you can still complete it at your leisure. Even just getting out for short walks in the meantime will do you the world of good and maybe get you in the mood for some regular exercise. Summer is coming, and there is no time like the present to get ready for it. Check out the Tips & Advice link above before starting an exercise program.
You can use the 5 Week Training Plan above as a guide to your training depending on your fitness level. If your fitness level is already at week 2 or 3, well, start there. If you're already running 5K's, well done - keep it up!
Please be mindful of Social Distancing when exercising.
There are 5 weeks to Easter!, We've got a 5 Week Training Plan! and there's A 5K to run!.
Let's Do This!
Stay Safe and enjoy the good weather.
