Turn on the 'Lights # 6:
Santry & Starlights GFC:
Starlights GFC, the local GAA club for Santry, Turnapin, Cloghran and surrounding areas.
The growth in the wider Santry area over the last few years has been nothing short of colossal.
As the only GAA club in Santry, it is important for Starlights to be at the forefront of providing social and sporting activities for the Area.
The area has been lacking in amenities for far too long. Despite the increasing population, there is still no National school. Although, we believe this will change in the not to distant future as the area expands.
Apart from Santry Demesne, there are no public green belt areas where social or sporting activities can take place. Starlights currently rent their playing pitches on Collinstown lane form DAA. The Collinstown Lane pitches are a major asset for the club and it currently has our Main pitch and a Juvenile sized training pitch with flood lights. There is ample parking and on match days it is possible to view the on-field fare from the comfort of your car.
However, we still feel it is necessary to have a facility within the local residential area. With this in mind we set about procuring the only available green space available in the area. We procured the "Hillfarm" site in Turnapin Lane from Fingal County Council on a long term lease. The plan is to develop this site to include a full sized juvenile pitch, an all-weather training pitch and a Clubhouse to be completed in a number of phases.
We hope to be in a position to open Phase 1, a juvenile training facility including a playing pitch suitable to play up to U14 grade matches, later this year.
Exciting times ahead for Starlights GFC and the wider Santry area!

Couch to 5K:
Our "Gaelic for Mothers & Others" team (G4MO) have undertaken to run a 5K for charity as part of their training and preparations for the upcoming season.
This event is not just confined to the G4MO and anyone can join them on the 5K. In fact, we already have quite a number of people say they will join in.
It will be a virtual 5K, which means you can complete it over any 5K route, even on a treadmill or in your back garden. It will take place over the Easter Bank Holiday Week-end and we will have a 5 week training program in the build up to get you motivated.
We will be launching the event and providing all the details on how to enter over the next week or so.
Skills Challenge:
The Hand Pass
The Hand Pass is used to pass the ball to a team mate who is in a better position or to keep the momentum of a move going. The Hand Pass is normally used to pass the ball over a short distance. You can also score a point using the Hand Pass. You can practice the Hand Pass with a training partner by simply using the techniques in the attached Skill Card as a help. Start off from a stationary position approx 5-10 meters apart and as you progress you can increase the distance, or increase the intensity by running side by side while passing to each other.
If you are on your own try passing the ball against a wall similarly to above. You will obviously also improve your catching skills as the ball rebounds or is passed back to you.
Also, the skills we have featured in previous weeks can be combined to create a training session while we wait to get back on the training ground together.

Many thanks to all who play our weekly Lottery Draw, your support is much appreciated by the Club.
I'ts not too late to get involved and play Starlights GFC weekly Lottery Draw. It is a fun way to be involved in supporting the Club and you also have a chance of scooping one of our weekly prizes or maybe even the weekly Jackpot.
You can play Starlights GFC weekly Lottery by clicking on one of the following links and follow the online instructions to select your favourite or lucky numbers. Each entry is €2 and is entered for a minimum 5 draws (€10). Your entry can be renewed every 5 draws but can also be purchased for a 12 month period, rolling over every 5 draws, meaning your entry is only debited from your account every 5 draws or, €10 at a time.
You can also enter as many lines as you wish. So if you have a family syndicate that wants to play a number of lines or entries each week, here is a suggestion to get your numbers in and spread the payments: if you normally played €10 in the old draw (5 tickets/entries), simply play one new ticket each week for 5 weeks and the payments are spread over the five weeks (€10 each week).
Have fun and Play Safe!
That's it for the moment.
Keep your Spirits Up and the 'Lights on.
