Turn on The 'Lights #10 Welcome to Turn on The 'Lights #10, bringing you the news, views and updates that affect Starlights GFC and the wider community of Santry, Turnapin and Cloghran. The news we've all been waiting for! Last week the Government announced the return to training for juveniles commencing the week of 26th April. This obviously depends on the re-opening up of society and lifting of restrictions going to plan and the covid incidence rate remaining low.  So we still have to be careful out there for the safe opening up of GAA activities. However, we are excited to announce that we are now in a position to plan for the return of non-contact juvenile training. See below for Little Stars Nursery and our Underage teams return  details. Juvenile Training: (8 yrs +) Juvenile Training will recommence for our underage teams on Thursday 29th April from 6:30pm until 7:30pm in our Collinstown Lane pitches. We cater for all age groups from 8 year old and above -  we...

We also have our weekly Lottery Draw, which continues to be held online and can be viewed on Facebook live each Saturday at 9pm. Turn on The 'Lights #8

Turn on The 'Lights #8 Welcome to our eight edition of Turn on The 'Lights, Starlights GFC's information blog, keeping us in touch with our members and friends wherever we may find ourselves during these strange times. At times it feels like there is very little happening or there's not much we can do in our lives at present, with various restrictions and limits curtailing us from doing what we love doing. None the less, there is light at the end of this particular tunnel and by sticking together we will get through this.  But then again, the human race is constantly evolving, as it has done, well...since the day dot. Likewise, as a Club, Starlights GFC are looking for different ways we can stay in touch and hopefully make some kind of a difference to the lives of people every day. We realise that we are not just a football club; "we are a Community" and we need to be a community. Ideas like our blog or on-line Club Lottery have given us a chance to stay in t...

Turn on The 'Lights #7

Turn on The 'Lights #7 This weeks Blog will feature heavily with our Gaelic for Mothers and Others team (G4MO), who during the week launched their 5K Charity Run in aid of The Daughters of Charity Child and Family Service. With no group gatherings or training sessions permitted under the current health restrictions, our G4MO have been keeping active with two weekly zoom sessions, including a Kettle Bell session at 8am on Saturdays.  Hold on!..... Run that by me again!!   A Zoom Session!......... At 8am!......... On Saturdays!......... With Kettle Bells! Well done Ladies, no shortage of dedication there then! However, to further improve their fitness, they have now decided to take on a Virtual 5K for a Local Charity. And, they are hoping that everyone in the Club will join with them for the event, whether that is taking on the 5k distance itself, or just to support them with a donation/sponsorship to their chosen charity. For all the info on the 5K, see the 'Couch to...

Turn on the 'Lights #6

Turn on the 'Lights # 6: Santry & Starlights GFC: Starlights GFC , the local GAA club for Santry , Turnapin , Cloghran and surrounding areas. The growth in the wider Santry area over the last few years has been nothing short of colossal. As the only GAA club in Santry, it is important for Starlights to be at the forefront of providing social and sporting activities for the Area.  The area has been lacking in amenities for far too long. Despite the increasing population, there is still no National school. Although, we believe this will change in the not to distant future as the area expands. Apart from Santry Demesne, there are no public green belt areas where social or sporting activities can take place. Starlights currently rent their playing pitches on Collinstown lane form DAA. The Collinstown Lane pitches are a major asset for the club and it currently has our Main pitch and a Juvenile sized training pitch with flood lights. There is ample parking and on match days i...

Turn on the 'Lights #5

Turn on the 'Lights #5 Well, that wasn't the news we were hoping for from the GAA's Covid Advisory Group earlier this week. But it probably wasn't really that unexpected, was it? So, it's highly unlikely we will see any onfield action before Easter. The important thing however, is that everyone stays safe and looks after themselves. We will get out of this, but all in good time. In the meanwhile, stay in touch with one another, keep your spirits up, check in on neighbours, friends and family, especially the elderly and vulnerable in our community. Just calling in to check on someone may be the only interaction they get. But remember to keep yourself and them safe.  If your out on a walk or run, say "hello" to others who are out and about. It could be the "hello" or "Good Morning" that makes all the difference. We are in this together and, together we will get through it!  Skills Challenge: The Low Catch This weeks' skill is the Low...
